What is a .sor file?
It is the standard file an OTDR saves after measuring a fiber, in the industry-standard SOR format. It contains the backscatter trace, the list of events (splices, connectors, fiber end) and header data such as fiber ID, locations, wavelength and pulse width.
What can I edit?
Practically everything: events (distance, loss, reflectance, attenuation, type, comments), the trace itself (shift zones, splice, tilt, flip, copy/paste, noise) and every header: general, supplier, acquisition parameters and fiber data.
How do credits work?
Opening, editing and validating are free. Exporting a file costs 1 credit and unlocks that file for 24 hours, so you can keep adjusting and export it again without paying twice.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. When you create an account and confirm your email you get 1 free credit, enough to export a complete file and check the result in your own software.
Which OTDRs are supported?
SOREditor reads SOR files in version 2 of the standard, the format written by most current OTDRs. Open your file for free: if it loads, it can be exported.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser at app.soreditor.com on Windows, macOS or Linux. A desktop computer is recommended for editing the trace.
I paid. When do I get my credits?
Usually in under a minute. Credits are linked to the email used at checkout, so pay with the same email as your account. If you buy first, they are added when you sign up with that email.
Are my files safe?
Files travel over an encrypted connection and are processed only to validate and build your export. We do not keep your traces; we only store a fingerprint to allow free re-exports for 24 hours.
Will the exported file open in my OTDR software?
Yes. Exports are standard SOR files with recomputed checksums, and blocks you did not change are copied as they were. The free validation shows the full report before you pay.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 3 MB per .sor file, which covers even long, high-resolution traces.
